For such a reasonably priced shoe, you’re getting a great looking, great performing waterproof spiked golf shoe. With it’s simple and sleek styling, and exceptional comfort, it’s no wonder leading professionals such as Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood are currently gaming this shoe.
Style and Looks
The Nike Roshe G Tour Golf Shoes are based on the incredibly popular Nike Roshe running trainers. While the spikeless version of the shoes are made from a mesh material, these spiked versions are made from a microfibre leather upper and look just as good, if not better. While the shoes have an athletic look, the synthetic leather material and simple design work really well as a golf shoe and look great whether worn with trousers or shorts. The internal heel counter helps keep the slick and stylish look going right round the rear of the shoe.
Comfort
For one of the cheapest pairs of Nike Golf shoes currently available on the market today, these are right up there in terms of comfort. The Lunarlon midsole foam is a proven winner, as Nike have been using it in their running trainers for years. While it’s no longer the leading foam when it comes to softness, it’s still a very soft and responsive foam offering great levels of comfort underfoot.
The synthetic upper provides a nice fit, but given this are a shoe built to a relative budget, it’s not the softest upper material Nike have at their disposal (see my Nike React Vapour 2 and Tour Premiere reviews). Just to be clear, these are a comfortable shoe and require very little if any break in time…they’re just not the softest feeling or most breathable upper out there…but when you can pick up a pair in the sales for between £60-£70, you can’t expect them to be class leading.
The padding on the tongue is quite thick, and there’s plenty of padding around the ankle and heel. There’s no Flywire technology on these shoes, which would have been a nice addition, but it’s not a huge issue, the classic design of these shoes means your foot still feels locked down enough to be comfortable.
Grip
The TPU soleplate is 100% identical to the more expensive Nike React Vapour 2 Golf Shoes (I’ve reviewed them side by side), and it performs really well. The 7 Champ PivX removable spikes work really well with the strategically moulded TPU soleplate. The soleplate has additional ridges running across the bottom of the shoe to help provide additional grip and stability. If Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood are happy with the level of grip these shoes provide when they’re playing for millions of dollars, they’re plenty good enough for me and my Saturday morning swindle!
Stability
While there are some questions over the stability of the spikeless version of the Roshe golf shoes, the combination of the internal heel counter, thicker synthetic leather upper material and rigidity of the TPU soleplate means these spiked versions are nice and stable through your swing. Your feet feel nicely locked down and the shoes give you the confidence to swing as hard as you feel you can. I know I keep coming back to it, but it really is a massive endorsement to have leading PGA mega stars using these shoes throughout the 2019 season and beyond, given they swing harder and faster than I ever will.
Summary
I love these shoes, there I said it! Yes there are more comfortable, better fitting or better looking shoes on the market, but they’re all much more expensive, in some cases more than double.
